How your habits are the cause of your resistance to success 2/4

Part 2 of the 4 part series of the G.R.I T process.

Resistance is the biggest block preventing you from moving forward and achieving what you desire.

You may already be saying ‘I don’t have resistance’!

You don't walk around saying to yourself, ‘I really need to release my resistance to be able to manifest what I really want’.

You don’t live your day to day lives saying to yourself ‘I need to let go of my limiting beliefs’!

Why, because it is all in our subconscious mind.

The subconscious mind is a data bank for everything that is not in your conscious everyday thinking mind. It stores your beliefs, past experiences (think hypnotherapy), your memories and your skills (you just drive a car automatically).

Our brain is on auto pilot, 99% of what you do is habit.

You were born without habits - you learnt them. Read that bit again.

A Habit example is brushing your teeth in the morning, test yourself by using your opposite hand you usually use to hold the brush. This is an example of how hardwired your brain actually is.

What has habits got to do with releasing resistance?

Quite alot actually, as you have been telling yourself a story which has created a ‘block’ which is the resistance you are facing.

Let me give an example of what it may look like;

  • I can’t launch an online program because I don’t know how to….the habit of negative self talk.

  • I can’t lose weight because I don’t have enough time to do it….the habit of blaming not having enough time.

  • I’m too tired/overweight/unattractive/not good enough….the habit of low self esteem.

These are all stories that have come from somewhere which you now believe is the truth , possibly on a subconscious level.

The resistance has been created and it has now become a habitual thought process that is stuck in the same cycle.

The key to clearing resistance according to Abraham Hicks is;

‘You get rid of it before it starts’.

Follow these 5 steps to catch out the old habits of resistance preventing you from acheiving your desire.

  1. Be honest with yourself. What limiting beliefs or patterns of behaviour are you currently holding onto (habits).

This can be negative self talk (I can’t do, I’m not clever enough), procrastination, lack of motivation.

Recognise these, once you are aware of them then you can prevent them, or at least notice what triggers them to flare up.

  1. Stay out of judgement. This is self judgement and judgement of others. Self judgement can look something like this, when you don’t achieve what it is you want (launching an online course for example) and you don’t get the result you wanted, how do you deal with it? A failure or a learning curve?

Judgement of others is an interesting one. Often it is a reflection of ourselves in some way. Question yourself if it is judgement you are in of others or jealousy.

  1. Do what you can do something about. You can do something about you, your emotions, feelings and thought processes.

Let go over what you don’t have control over. This is other people's thoughts and actions, external factors such as what happens around you in the world.

  1. Pay attention to where you place your focus.

Where your attention flows, energy flows.

Ever had those times when you have dreaded doing a task, maybe writing some content and you just think to yourself, ‘I don’t know what to write, I can’t get started, I have no inspiration’, what happens….jsut that, it’s really tricky to get going it doesn’t flow. That’s proof that your attention has created the blocks to the energy flow.

  1. Look for stories that help you change your expectations.

What I mean by this is look for the positive. Look for the stories that boost your reason why you do, what you do.

Do you know someone who seems to have what you want? This is a wonderful way to really test out your judgement and resistance. Find someone who does or has what it is that you want to aspire to having/being. What does it bring up for you? If it is judgement and resistance then these are the triggers that you need to dive into deeper with.
